Fall Safety from Olsen Chain & Cable
As we put a long winter behind us and kick off construction season around the country, it’s essential that we address issues related safety on the job. Construction projects that have been delayed are starting. Crews are going to be active and jobs are going to be on tight timelines. This increase in momentum also means there’s going to be an increase in risk.
Fall prevention is about the proper use of equipment and the proper understanding of risks. Knowing the various equipment designed to protect people from falls — and knowing how to inspect it and how to use it properly — will equip you to protect your people and your operation. At Olsen, we can help you find the right protective equipment from brands you can trust, including 3M Protecta and DBI-Sala.

Training & Personal Responsibility
Safety starts with the individual. Each person on your crew has to be part of your effort to have a safe, productive workforce. All the equipment in the world can’t protect people from careless or hurried activity. Safety standards made in a corporate office aren’t effective if they aren’t maintained by people in the field.
One of the best ways to help people take responsibility is to invest in training them. Help your employees know what equipment they should be using to prevent falls. Train them to use the equipment. Make sure that the equipment you have for them is operational and that the training you give them is thorough.
What heights are your crews working from? What kinds of vulnerabilities are your workers exposed to? What peripheral risks or issues are present that could pose a threat to your people - things like other contractors doing different projects, construction materials not properly organized or stored, or inclement weather conditions? Know your surroundings. Make sure your crew isn’t at risk because your eyes aren’t open.
At Olsen Chain & Cable, our highest priority is safety for your people and your operation. It’s why we take strength and innovation so seriously, and it's why our lifting equipment, our training, and our inspection and repair services exist.
