Choosing the Right Straps

Tow vs. Recovery Straps

The safety of your operation is directly tied to the equipment you use and the training you provide to the people using it.

Almost every workplace injury can be traced back to the wrong equipment, to faulty equipment, or to the misuse of equipment. It makes education, training, and active management of your operation absolutely essential.

The wrong equipment is always the wrong choice.

If your company is using equipment for something other than its intended purpose, injury or accidents are inevitable. And while the right equipment may not be readily available or may seem like too steep of a financial investment, the wrong equipment is a liability to you and your operation.

The right equipment used wrong is the wrong choice.

There’s an old business adage, where a manager asks the question “What if I pay money to train my employees and then they all leave?” The response he’s given? “What if you don’t train them and they stay?” The implications are obvious. An untrained staff is a liability. So even if the equipment you’ve purchased is cutting edge, it matters little if your people aren’t trained to use it properly.

Olsen - Tow vs. Recovery Straps

When you’re using any sort of tow or recovery strap for the work you’re doing, it’s essential that the right equipment is used in the proper way. At Olsen Chain & Cable, we’re here to help you make sure that happens.

TOW STRAPS

  • Always keep safety in mind.
  • Stay at least the length of the strap away from vehicles when tow/recovery is in process Designed for the sole purpose of towing
  • Are made of Dacron or polypropylene that does not stretch
  • Comes with shackles or hooks made for connecting to tow hooks on a truck
  • Do not use for recovery as shackles or hooks may become dangerous projectiles
  • Before ever using the strap, make sure it’s in good condition (no cuts, frays, or broken stitching.)
  • Keep away from excessive heat
  • Never exceed rated capacity for a heavy-duty tow/recovery
  • Clean with water, never use chemicals

RECOVERY STRAPS

  • Safer than chains, not nearly as heavy and easy to use
  • Drive slowly when pulling a vehicle out, sudden tugs may lead to damage
  • Before ever using the strap, make sure it is in good condition (no cuts, frays, or broken stitching.)
  • Keep away from excessive heat
